The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is powerful because healthcare is considered very complex, and especially because MDH is a significant lobbyist at the Capital.
The federal government prevents government agencies (such as health government agencies), from lobbying our federal legislators in Congress, but the laws in Minnesota allow government agencies, like MDH, to be lobbyists!
Do we need to pass a law in Minnesota prohibiting government agencies from lobbying our legislators? We think so!
As an incremental step, should we demand that MDH report how much money they spend on lobbying activities? We think so!
